What do we do? Put simply, we help people create what they
want in their lives or businesses.
At an Enlightened Response Life Coaching session or Management
Development workshop you are likely to experience a diverse
collection of ideas and principles from Buddha to Blanchard,
Taoism to Taylorism or Tai Chi to NLP - techniques to improve
your leadership and communication, speed your learning, increase
your profits or slow your metabolism. The Enlightened Response
approach is about combining the wisdom of the Olde Worlde
with the revelations of the New Age. No matter what the source
of the information, if it enhances understanding, cooperation,
communication or development we will probably consider its
inclusion in one of our programmes.
And what exactly is an Enlightened Response ? It
is a conscious choice to respond, rather than react, to anything
that happens in your life. The Enlightened Response technique
enables you to intervene between your thoughts and actions
- creating a PAUSE button if you like - allowing time to select
more appropriate responses.
Why work with us?
Here are some words clients use to describe our style.
Life
Coaching
and Executive Coaching
An Enlightened Response life or executive coach will help
you to clarify your personal visions and goals as well as
assisting in the development of the strategies to achieve
them. They will guide and enthuse, act as mentor and motivator,
and be there at the forming of each step of your plan. They
will encourage you to set the direction at the start and
be there to celebrate at the finish line. A life coach won't
tell you what to do, just simply assist you to plan what
you need to think, feel, do and be to achieve the results
you want.
Group Life Coaching
Discover the power of creating your life
plan within the synergy of a group of fellow goal-seekers.
These workshops involve both individual and team process
and can be a great introduction to coaching. Workshops of
differing length are available to suit your needs. Contact

How does it all work?
Using the VISTA coaching model, your ER Coach will assist
you to ensure your goals are:
V isualised - What is
the mental picture you have of success. What does it look,
sound, feel, smell and taste like? In this imaginary scene,
who is there, what is happening and most importantly - how
does it FEEL emotionally?
I nspirational - This
aspect is a result of the scene you have visualised. Is it
powerful enough to move you into action?
S pecific - What exactly
are the specific steps or stages you need to pass through
before you match your vision. There may be just one major
picture of success you have in mind, or several smaller achievements
that combined will give you your all important 'feel good
factor'.
T imebound - Place deadlines
on each specific step, as well as the final outcome. Goals
are most effective when they just far enough out of reach
to give an eventual sense of accomplishment, but not so far
as to demotivate.
A ssessable - It
is imperative that there be points at regular intervals where
your progress is noticeable. Knowing where they are, imagining
how it will feel when you get there, acknowledging and celebrating
that their
And the logistics?
No two contracts or client/coach relationships are the same,
but following is a rough draft of a typical coaching outline. Although clinically mapped out, this process may seem a bit ‘dry’, don’t be fooled - this is an exciting time for both coach and client!
Introductory Session Initial 2-4 hour session with the purpose of:
Developing an inspiring vision and setting
specific, timebound and assessable objectives that are
based on this vision
Contracting the coaching relationship
and establishing mutual expectations between client and
coach
Assessing development needs and generating
understanding of the behavioural/skill changes required
to achieve the vision
Creating ownership, commitment and motivating factors to bring
about change, then identifying priorities, barriers and the
methods to achieve the vision.
Six Month Coaching Programme
Month One - one two-hour session fortnightly.
This frequency kick starts the coaching plan. Actions are
positioned at the top of the client's priorities and are
kept firmly in focus in order to facilitate the initial phase
of behavioural change. A month into the coaching the client
should begin to feel comfortable using some of the new approaches/skills
and will begin to behave differently. They will especially
be encouraged to improve their ability to:
self-observe, so as to gain
self-awareness, in order to
self-feedback, self-correct and self-coach
Months two to six - one two hour session monthly
This is about embedding and deepening the skills and behavioural
changes so that the client begins to become more habitual
and automatic in order to facilitate permanent behavioural
change. The process of self-coaching really kicks in at this
stage. This enables the coach to close the coaching relationship
at the appropriate point without bringing the client's self
development to an abrupt end.
A minimum of three months is recommended for coaching of
this nature
Final 2-4 hour Review Session
This final session is to assess progress against the vision
and objectives, address and explore any outstanding coaching
topics, generate a self coaching action plan, and/or re-set
further coaching needs if appropriate.
Typically, a total of two x 2-4 hour sessions and 7 x 2 hourly
sessions comprise a six month coaching programme
And what does life
coaching and executive coaching cost?
As mentioned earlier, no two coaching contracts are the
same, but a typical 3 month Life Coaching programme - say,
2 x 3 hr sessions and 4 x 1 hour sessions - would start at
between £750 and £1000
Executive Coaching fees are negotiated
on a client to client basis.

Background
I started working with my ER Coach in October 2001. At the
time I was 18 months into my role as European Finance Director
and was responsible for 15 businesses across 9 different
countries. Whilst I was coping well with the technical demands
my job, I was so busy that I had no perspective or balance.
I also struggled with management and leadership issues across
the diverse business cultures in which I was operating. As
outlined below we worked on a variety of areas. I felt my
coach's contribution was so valuable that when I changed
organisations to work in a similar role, I continued the
relationship.
The key areas we focussed on were:
Balance and Perspective
Whilst I felt I was doing my job well, I was very unhappy
when I started the coaching process. My coach helped me to
identify that this was largely because I was so busy rushing
around Europe that I had no time for my own life. Also I
didn't have time to look at the role and team with perspective.
They helped me look at my life in terms of living my values
rather than just giving lip service. This helped me to be
much more self-aware. It also helped me realise how task
focused I was and the importance of balancing the task and
the people in order to achieve the best result. I learnt
the importance of developing trust and rapport across the
businesses in order to influence more effectively.
Impact on others
My previous lack of self-awareness meant that I had given
little thought to the impact I had on others. We used a behavioural
style model to help me understand and value different viewpoints
and ways of interacting with the world and those in it. Through
working with my coach I developed my leadership skills and
in particular those related to people orientation where I
needed a lot of support.
Strategy
Coaching also helped me achieve a strategic focus. I began
to create a 'helicopter' view of the business and organisational
processes which removed the stress and emotion and allowed
more objectivity.
Career Break
During my last 6 months at -------- I went through some
difficult issues. In particular I was struggling to get balance
in my life and deal with the demands of the job. My coach's
support and life coaching (as distinct from executive coaching)
through that period was invaluable - it helped me work on
a life plan which led me to decide on a career break for
a few months, before taking on the new and more challenging
role.
The Bottom Line
Coaching allowed me to develop an extremely warm and powerful
relationship with my coach and altogether it was an incredibly
valuable and rewarding experience for me. I can highly recommend
it to anyone trying to create. more of whatever it is they
want in their life.

I used to be the type of person who took action before thinking
things through. It got me the reputation of being an aggressive,
scary person. Since my coaching I am pleased to say I am
growing as a person and my behaviour is changing for the
better because of this. I know it is not an overnight transformation
and that it is only me that can do the changing. I can now
say that I am more of an assertive person rather than aggressive
person. Of course I have lapses but I hope they are becoming
less and less.
Values
My coaching path was not straightforward and included many
twists and turns that made me look at myself in ways that
I hadn't before, which I sometimes found tough.
Values! This I had never looked at before. I knew
I had things in my life that were important to me but they
had never been categorised. Now I know them as my values.
I then looked at how these affected my life especially in
the decisions I made. I found this hard as I had to come
to terms with the fact that what I thought was important
to me was not as important as I first thought. For example
my family are in my top 10 values but not at the very top
as I first thought they would be. This upset me to begin
with but when I thought about it, it didn't mean I loved
them any less and I also understand that my values change
according to what's going on in my life.
Goals
Having looked at my values this then enabled me to set goals,
give me direction. For example I used to plod along with
my job thinking the only way I could better myself was if
I got a lucky break. Now I am changing my job into a career.
Doing courses to better myself. I no longer look out for
lucky breaks but make my next career step up happen. I am
now planning that with the confidence and knowledge I have
gained from this experience I can apply it to other areas
of my life such as personal relationships!
Communication
One of the biggest differences coaching has made to my life
is the way in which I handle difficult situations. I used
to suffer a lot with speaking/acting before thinking. My
actions made me feel better in the short term but did not
have lasting effects. Through coaching this is changing and
I think a lot more about long-term effects and solutions.
For example I am being harassed by my neighbour in the flat
below mine for the noise that I make (T.V on loud, playing
loud music etc). In my days before coaching I would have
retaliated with the same abuse I am receiving. ('Give as
good as you get' syndrome). Now the situation is turning
in my favour due to the fact I have stopped and thought about
how a solution can be found long term, instead of arguing
the rights and wrongs which has you going round in circles.
The Future.
I have really benefited from coaching and the people around
me - family, friends and work colleagues - can see it too.
Because of all these benefits and improvements, I feel much
happier with my life and so I plan to continue with my coaching
for a while yet.

Thank you for your time again today. I really enjoy the sessions I am
having with you and I do not want you to underestimate how helpful I am
finding them in managing my personal state at the moment! I really feel
that they are helping me to keep focused and on track at work while I sort
out my personal situation.
I agree with you that I would probably still have done a
lot of the things we have talked about, but I can assure
you I would not be feeling as confident that they were the
right things to be doing. I would have just been "going
with my gut" but not actually understanding why and
I am sure I would have been tempted to waver and may have
lost my resolve in recent weeks.
Thank you.
